Hailing from the upper Midwest of the United States, my husband and I moved to the Netherlands in the fall of 2014. Since then, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this little country with its big, Dutch personality, and feel lucky to experience so much of life in Europe, which can be so similar and yet so different from the place we call home.
I enjoy the little things in life, like the steam rising from a fresh cup of tea, the birds flitting between the branches outside the window, or flying a kite on a breezy summer day. I care deeply for my home county, and find experiencing other ways of life and points of view illuminating and fulfilling.
Being on this side of the world is a great adventure – full of culture, travel, new experiences and wonderful people. We are lucky to have visits from old friends and to make new ones, and to be close enough to travel to so many places in Europe and beyond.
I also work in sustainable development, and find the way Europe approaches life interesting in this respect, so focus on those aspects too.
Finally, I believe that open dialogue, compassion and respect make the world a better place, and set that as an intention for this project – so don’t hesitate to ask questions, give feedback, or share your point of view.
